New Website

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

This website is being replaced with the new USMariner.info forum site. The forum site will provide a much better medium for a broader range of discussions and also provide a method of providing online instruction that is more cost effective that my previous attempts.

Thank you for your support over the life of this blog and I hope to see you as a registered user a USMariner.info soon.

Thank you very much Dennis! I am amazed how much I learned and how well you taught the class. You made it truly easy with your knowledge and excellent teaching skills. Thanks for putting up with me over analyzing everything. You could tell that use to be my job. I thought I knew a lot, but now I know much more and feel twice as confident about my abilities thanks to you.
Met a guy today that I recommended he call you and passed on the business card I had from you to him. I look forward in coming in and doing the radar class with you.

Captain Larry

Captain of the sportfishing vessels “Fearless” and “Fearless II” and home of Legend Sportfishing.

Thank You.

You are welcome Larry. I appreciate your comments and your referrals. In truth your “over analyzing” made it a better class for everyone by forcing me to explain things more clearly and is a good reminder for me NOT to become too complacent with my teaching. Thank you.

Dennis,

Thank you for your help a couple of weeks ago in finishing up my OUPV paperwork. I submitted everything to USCG and recently received an e-mail saying that my application has been approved. I really learned a lot from your course and have recommended it to others that have asked about what they need to do to get into the guide business. Anyway, here’s the link to my website that you had requested. I know you’ve got your own steelhead guide, but if you ever want to chase salmon, steelhead, sturgeon or trout, keep me in mind. Thanks again for your assistance.

I have been teaching USCG approved courses since 1992 and have provided training to thousands of mariners. In1992 and1993 I taught part time at both Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon and Clatsop Community College (CCC) in Astoria, Oregon. From 1994  through 2006 I worked as a full time instructor at CCC. I retired from Clatsop in the spring of 2006 and moved to Portland, Oregon where I founded Columbia Pacific Maritime LLC. Since the fall of 2006 I have issued well over 700 course completion certificates through my private maritime school.

At the Pacific NW Sportsman’s Show several former community college students of mine stopped by to say hi and tell me what they were doing. I am always pleased to hear from my student alumni. If you are a former student of mine and have a website you would like posted under the Alumni Listings please contact me and I will be happy to include it.

Dennis,

I just want to thank you for helping me reach one of my long standing goals. I really cannot thank you enough for all of the information you imparted on me and my class last year. The information was presented in such an organized way that it was actually very easy for me to learn and retain it. Thanks for also helping me go over my application one last time before I submitted it to the Coast Guard.

I will most assuredly share my story with other aspiring guides in this area and anywhere I go. I wish you only the best for you and your school. Thanks again and keep up the outstanding work. If I can ever be of service to you, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Phil

Thank you for your kind words Phil. It was my pleasure.

Happy New Year and good fishing,

Dennis

Twelve Pack Passenger Vessel

Sunday, November 15th, 2009
Motor Yacht Linmar

Motor Yacht Linmar

This looks like fun. One of my students just finished the Upgrade Master 100 ton Master 200 ton class today so that he can operate this beautiful luxury yacht as an un-inspected 12-passenger vessel. Click here to visit his website.

Twelve packs are becoming very popular as small personalized luxury passenger vessels catering to a very select market. To qualify as an un-inspected passenger vessel for 12 passengers the vessel must be over 100 and under 300 gross tons and operated by a mariner holding a license as Master with an appropriate tonnage limitation. The majority of these vessels are less than 200 tons so that they can be operated by someone holding a Master 200 ton license. If passengers have access to the vessel for more than 12 hours a day a second operator holding a license as Master or Mate of appropriate tonnage must be on-board.
