USCG Approved Courses

    All USCG approved courses are taken in lieu of testing at a Coast Guard
    Regional Exam Center (REC). This means that all the required exams are
    taken during the course and no additional examinations at the Coast
    Guard are required.

The National Maritime Center has issued the following USCG course
approvals to Columbia Pacific Maritime LLC (updated January 2010).

ABLE SEAMAN
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 48-hour Able Seaman course
    and presents your Certificate of Training within one year of the completion of
    training, will satisfy the written examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.05-9 for
    the “Deck & Navigation General / Deck Safety” and “Deck General & Safety / Rules
    of the Road” exam modules for any Able Seaman endorsement; AND the practical
    (knot-tying) examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.05-9(c) for any Able Seaman
    endorsement.

APPRENTICE MATE (STEERSMAN) UPGRADE
    Any applicant successfully completing your 16-hour Apprentice Mate (Steersman)
    Upgrade course and presenting your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of
    the completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR
    10.205(i) for original issuance of a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of
    Towing Vessels (Near Coastal or Inland); PROVIDED that they either hold a license
    as Master Not More Than 200 Gross Tons or have satisfied the examination
    requirements for a license as Master Not More Than 200 Gross Tons WITHIN THE
    PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS.

ASSISTANCE TOWING
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 4-hour Assistance Towing
    course and presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of the
    completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.482
    (b) for an Assistance Towing endorsement to any license up to Master Not More
    Than 200 gross tons.

AUXILIARY SAIL
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 4-hour Auxiliary Sail course and
    presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of the completion of
    training, will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(i) for an
    Auxiliary Sail endorsement to any deck license up to 200 gross tons.

CELESTIAL NAVIGATION (200 TONS)
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 60-hour Celestial Navigation
    (200 Tons) course and who presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR
    of the completion of training, will satisfy the celestial navigation examination
    requirements of 46 CFR 10.215(c) and 10.401(d) for adding an “Upon Oceans”
    endorsement to any deck license up to Master Not More Than 200 Gross Tons, or
    to a license as Master or Mate of Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessels.

FIRST AID & CPR
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 8-Hour First Aid & CPR course
    will satisfy the Basic Safety - Elementary First Aid training requirements of Section
    A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR 11.202(b)(3); AND if
    presented within one year of the date of training, the First Aid & CPR training
    requirements of 46 CFR 11.205(e)(1)(ii) and 11.205(e)(2)(iii) for original issuance of
    an officer endorsement.

MASTER 100 TONS
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 80-hour Master 100 Tons
    course and presents your Certificate of Training at a Regional Exam Center WITHIN
    ONE YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of
    46 CFR 10.205(i) for original issuance, 46 CFR 10. 209(c)(iii) for renewal, and 46
    CFR 10.209(f) for reissuance of a license as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of
    Not More Than 100 Gross Tons (except oceans).

MASTER/MATE FISHING (NEAR COASTAL)
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 8-hour Master/Mate Fishing
    Vessel (Near Coastal) course and who presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN
    ONE YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of
    46 CFR 11.205(f) for original issuance, 46 CFR 10. 227(d)(8)(C) for renewal, and 46
    CFR 10.209(f) for re-issuance of a license as Master or Mate of Uninspected Fishing
    Industry Vessels (Near Coastal), --PROVIDED-- that they either hold a current
    license valid for service on near coastal vessels of at least 150 gross registered
    tons, OR have satisfied the examination requirements for a license as Master Not
    More Than 200 Gross Tons (Near Coastal) WITHIN ONE YEAR prior to license
    application.

OUPV (64-HOUR)
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 64-hour Operator of
    Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) course and presents your Certificate of
    Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the
    examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(i) for original issuance, 46 CFR 10. 209
    (c)(iii) for renewal, and 46 CFR 10.209(f) for reissuance of a license as Operator of
    Uninspected Passenger Vessels (Near Coastal).

RADAR OBSERVER (UNLIMITED)
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 5-day Radar Observer
    (Unlimited) course will satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 10.480 for an
    endorsement as Radar Observer (Unlimited).

RADAR OBSERVER RECERTIFICATION
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 1-day Radar Observer
    Recertification course will satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 10.480(d) for renewal
    of any Radar Observer endorsement.

RULES OF THE ROAD
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 24-hour Rules of the Road
    course with a passing grade of at least 90% will EITHER satisfy the Rules of the
    Road Examination requirements for original issuance or renewal of any deck license
    up to Master 200 Gross Registered Tons, Master or Mate of Fishing Vessels, and
    Apprentice Mate (Steersman) if presented WITHIN ONE YEAR of the completion of
    training; OR receive 7 days sea service credit towards any deck license up to
    Master 200 gross register tons, or Master or Mate of Fishing Vessels, Pilot (Mate).
    This sea service credit may not exceed limits specified by law and may not be used
    to satisfy any recency requirements or requirements for service on specific routes
    or types of vessels.

UPGRADE MASTER 100 TONS TO MASTER 200 TONS
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 32-hour Upgrade Master 100
    Tons to Master 200 Tons course and presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN
    ONE YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of
    46 CFR 10.207 for upgrade of a license from Master 100 Tons Near Coastal to
    Master 200 Tons Near Coastal.

UPGRADE OUPV TO MASTER 100 TONS
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 24-hour Upgrade OUPV to
    Master 100 Tons course and presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE
    YEAR of the completion of training, will satisfy the examination requirements of 46
    CFR 10.207 for upgrade of a license from OUPV to Master 100 Tons Near Coastal.

VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS (FLASHING LIGHT)
    Any applicant who has successfully completed your 1-day Visual Communications
    (Flashing Light) course will satisfy the practical signaling examination requirements
    (flashing light) of 46 CFR 10.401(h) if presented WITHIN ONE YEAR of the
    completion of training; AND will be considered to have successfully demonstrated
    the equivalent of assessment OICNW-4-1A from the National Assessment
    Guidelines for Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code. Applicants who have successfully
    completed your course need not present a completed “Control Sheet” for this
    assessment in application for STCW certification.
