Master & Mate 200 ton or less Captain's Licenses
Captain's licenses as Master or Mate 200 tons or less are issued with 150 or 200 ton limitations depending on the qualifying experience of the applicant. This license allows the holder to operate crew boats, supply boats, oil spill response vessels, and both inspected and uninspected passenger vessels within the limitations on the endorsement.
12-Pack Uninspected Passenger Vessel is an uninspected passenger vessel greater than 100 gross registered tons (GRT) carrying 12 or fewer passengers for hire. The operator of a 12-pack must hold a license as Master with an appropriate tonnage limitation for the vessel; the second captain may hold a license as Mate with an appropriate tonnage limitation for the vessel.
Master authorizes the mariner to serve as captain on any inspected vessel or uninspected vessel within the limitations on the endorsement, including as OUPV.
Mate authorizes the mariner to serve as second captain on any inspected or uninpsected vessel within the limitations on the endorsement or as OUPV.
Route Descriptions & Professional Requirements
The route you will receive depends on your qualifying sea service experience. These endorsements are issued with Inland, Near Coastal or Ocean routes.
Inland Route
An Inland Route authorizes authority over all US federally navigable inland waters, including the waters of Puget Sound, Strait of Juan De Fuca, the Inside Passage through British Columbia and the waters of SE Alaska.
Mate 200 ton or less Inland (references 46 CFR 11.454)
Mate 200 tons or less Inland requires 180 days of qualifying sea service experience on the deck of power-driven vessels that includes 90 days of experience within the past three years.
An Auxiliary Sail Endorsement may be added to this license by documenting 90 days of experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
Master 200 ton or less Inland Route (references 46 CFR 11.452)
Master 200 tons or less Inland requires 360 days of qualifying sea service experience on the deck of power-driven vessels that includes at least 180 days on near coastal waters and 90 days within the past three years.
An Auxiliary Sail Endorsement may be added to this license by documenting 180 days of experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
Near Coastal Route
A Near Coastal Route includes all the Inland waters of the US and the near coastal ocean waters within 200 miles offshore.
Mate 200 ton or less Near Coastal (references 46 CFR 11.427)
Mate 200 tons or less Near Coastal requires 360 days of qualifying sea service experience on the deck of power-driven vessels that includes at least 180 days on near coastal waters and 90 days of experience within the past three years.
An Auxiliary Sail Endorsement may be added to this license by documenting 90 days of experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
Master 200 ton or less Near Coastal (references 46 CFR 11.426)
Master 200 tons or less Near Coastal requires 720 days of qualifying experience on power-driven vessels that includes at least 360 days on near coastal waters; at least 360 days of this qualifying experience must have been as master or mate while holding an endorsement as Master, Mate or OUPV; and 90 days of experience within the past three years.
An Auxiliary Sail Endorsement may be added to this license by documenting 360 days of experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
Oceans Route
An Oceans route includes all the Inland waters of the US and all Ocean waters.
Master 200 ton or less Oceans (references 46 CFR 11.424)
Master 200 tons or less Oceans requires 1080 days of qualifying experience on power-driven vessels that includes at least 540 days on near coastal waters; at least 720 days of this qualifying experience must have been as master or mate while holding an endorsement as Master, Mate or OUPV; and 90 days of experience within the past three years.
An Auxiliary Sail Endorsement may be added to this license by documenting 360 days of experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
