60-hour Celestial Navigation (200 tons) course schedule
$1,200 course fee
This eight day course will satisfy the USCG celestial navigation exam requirements for adding
"upon oceans" to a deck license of Master 200 tons or less or to Master or Mate of fishing vessels
and covers the use of the Nautical Almanac, sight reduction tables, and universal plot sheets for
plotting the vessel position using observations of the sun. The USCG approval reads:
Any applicant who has successfully completed your 60-hour Celestial Navigation (200 Tons)
course and who presents your Certificate of Training WITHIN ONE YEAR of the completion of
training, will satisfy the celestial navigation examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.215(c) and
10.401(d) for adding an “Upon Oceans” endorsement to any deck license up to Master Not More
Than 200 Gross Tons, or to a license as Master or Mate of Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessels.
To qualify for this course the student must hold a valid USCG license as Master or Mate of Fishing
or vessels 200 tons or less.
A 500/1600 ton celestial navigation course is available to select student, call for information.
This course is scheduled by appointment only, one student at a time.
