Renewal and Refresher Classes

COLPAC 239 License Refresher ($150) This one-day class will
satisfy the refresher exam requirements for the renewal of an OUPV,
or Master or Mate 200 ton or less endorsement. Subjects include a
review of Rules of the Road, Navigation General, and Deck General
Safety.
  • Mariners who can document 360 days of sea service experience
    within the past five years may renew their credentials without
    taking any refresher exams or courses.
  • This class is for mariners who are unable to document the
    required 360 days within the past five years.

COLPAC 402 Radar Recertification ($250) This one-day class will
satisfy the requirements for renewal or recertification of any Radar
observer endorsement, including Unlimited. Subjects include a review
of rapid radar plotting techniques to determine risk of collision,
contacts true course and speed, and action to avoid collision.

Upgrade Class for an increase in authority to an existing license

COLPAC 530 Upgrade OUPV to Master 100 ton ($500) This three-
day class will satisfy the exam requirements for upgrading OUPV to
Master 100 or less. Subjects include Deck General Safety and
Environmental Protection.

COLPAC 526 Upgrade Master 100 to 200 ton ($600) This four-day
class will satisfy the exam requirements for an upgrade of the tonnage
limitation of Master 100 or less to Master or Mate 200 tons without
changing the route. Subjects include Stability, Safety, and Chart
Navigation.

Upgrade Class for an increase in route for an existing license

COLPAC 619 Upgrade OUPV Inland to Near Coastal ($400) This
two-day class will satisfy the exam requirements for the upgrade of an
OUPV Inland to an OUPV Near Coastal route. Subjects include
Navigation General and Deck General Safety and Environmental
Protection.

COLPAC 530 Upgrade Master 100 ton Inland to Near Coastal
($500)
This three-day class will satisfy the exam requirements for
upgrading Master 100 or less Inland to Near Coastal. Subjects include
Deck General Safety and Environmental Protection.

COLPAC 630 Upgrade Master/Mate 200 Inland to Near Coastal
($500)
This four-day class will satisfy the exam requirements for
upgrade of Master or Mate 200 ton Inland to Near Coastal. Subjects
include Navigation General, Deck General, Safety, and Environmental
Protection.

COLPAC 104 Celestial Navigation (200 tons) ($1,200) This 10-day
class will satisfy the exam requirements for an increase from Near
Coastal to an All Oceans route for Master or Mate 200 tons or less
(including 25, 50 and 100 tons); Apprentice Mate (Steersman), Mate,
or Master of Towing Vessels, or Mate of Fishing Industry Vessels.
Subjects include the use of the Nautical Almanac and PUB 229 Sight
Reduction Tables for making observations of the sun for position fixing.

Classes for adding an endorsement to an existing license

COLPAC 42 Assistance Towing Endorsement ($100) This four-hour
class will satisfy the exam requirements for adding "Commercial
Assistance Towing" to an OUPV, or Master or Mate 200 tons or less.
Subjects include assistance towing terminology, hazards, and safety.

COLPAC 45 Auxiliary Sailing Endorsement ($100) This four-hour
class will satisfy the exam requirements for adding "Auxiliary Sailing
Vessels" to a Master or Mate 200 ton or less endorsement. Subjects
include sailing terminology, Safety, and Rules of the Road for sailing
vessel.

COLPAC 33 Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Upgrade ($400) This two-
day class will satisfy the exam requirements for adding an
endorsement of Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels IF
the mariner either holds an endorsement as Master 200 tons, or has
completed the 200 ton exam requirements within one-year. Mariners
that do not meet this requirement must complete prerequisite classes
before taking this upgrade class. Subjects include Towing
Regulations, Terminology, Seamanship, and Safety.

COLPAC 295 Master / Mate Fishing Vessel Upgrade Class ($400)
This two-day class will satisfy the exam requirements for adding an
endorsement of Master or Mate of Fishing Industry Vessels IF the
mariner either holds a Near Coastal endorsement of at least 150 tons,
or has completed the 200 ton exam requirements within one-year.
Mariners that do not meet this requirement must complete the
prerequisite classes before taking this upgrade class. Subjects
include Fishing Vessel Regulations, Stability, and Rules of the Road.
